Sports Injury Symptoms
Common sports-related foot and ankle injuries cause:
- Sudden pain and swelling after a twist, fall, or impact
- Pain that builds gradually with training
- Being unable to push off, pivot, or run normally
- Bruising around the foot or ankle
- A joint that feels unstable or “gives way”
- Tenderness in a specific spot that worsens with activity
How we treat it
Accurate diagnosis comes first — a focused exam, plus X-rays or other imaging when we need to see exactly what’s injured. From there, we lean on conservative care whenever possible: bracing or taping for support, activity modification (not always complete rest), and rehabilitation exercises that rebuild strength, flexibility, and balance for your specific sport.
Just as important is the return-to-play plan: clear milestones so you know when it’s safe to ramp back up, plus guidance on footwear, training adjustments, and prevention to reduce the chance of re-injury. When an injury needs advanced care, we coordinate with trusted specialists and stay involved in your recovery.
When to see a doctor
- You can’t bear weight on the foot after an injury
- Significant swelling or bruising
- The joint looks out of place
- Numbness in the foot or toes
- Pain that keeps you from playing after a few days of rest
- The same injury keeps happening
